Two, everybody locally is into the 60-70 era or hot rods. No interest locally in Model A’s!

I used to work at the GM Proving Ground in Milford, Michigan back in the old muscle car days. Was a great time then.

And remember the Greenfield Village old Ford festivities.

Maybe I see it from a different vantage based on my business, but within a 100-mile radius, I would venture a guess there is quite a few more Model-A's (many operable) than are in the local club. Expanding on that, very few of my customers over the years are (-or have been) members of a local -or even a national club.

Also, based on what I see in our town's cruise-in, --or seen in local shows, I am guessing there are less street rodded Model-A's than restored ones in our area.

There's no club in my area, but there's at least 5 within a mile of my house

We have 65 members and over 100 cars. My guess is close to 125 cars is more accurate. But that's just club members. Lots who have cars are not in the club.

Wow, that is an impressive number. I have seen the club around and have met a few of you so I know that you are active.

Bob I met you a few years ago at the Jiminy Peak show.

The local club is geriatric and not a good baseline for the car population out here. I work occasionally for an old model A and T cars and parts hustler out of Auburn CA, he's been at it for decades, his dad did it before him. He claims for every restored car there are five unfinished or unrestored ones off the radar. Another of his observations is the amount of old collections of parts that are currently coming on to the market is high and the prices are low. Estates are keeping the price of cars supported to a certain degree, but the parts stash with them are going for scrap weight..

From what I’ve read in the past couple of years, cars belonging to MARC and MAFCA members account for perhaps 125k cars. Beyond that, it’s anybody’s guess. I am amazed, however, at the number of cars I;ve become aware of in the past year that are not counted in the national car clubs.....so how many really remain ?

Jim Begg, MAFFI president, spoke at our club meeting int he past coupe of years and mentioned an estimate of perhaps 250k cars surviving. Who knows ????

Jim

I know in the town I live in, with a population of about 14000, there are five Model A's. There could be more, but I know no less than five, because they're mine.

Just on my street there are 6 plus two in barns that the owner drove to work each day then he passed back when and they have not seen daylight for at least 50yrs plus a 35 2dr V8.
So I pity these little kids there is no way on earth to restore a 50 yr old rice burner with
all that 50 yr old computers and junk! So I bless those who put all in barns and sheds during the war.

I have heard someone's estimate of 250,000, Give or take. That's in various stages of old age or restoration. About two a month are discovered in "Barns". Whether or not it includes foreign numbers or not, i can't say. Russia built quite a few cars but mostly trucks. These cars and trucks were built under the name of GAZ (Gorky Auto Zavod, Gorky Auto Factory). Many were produced in Europe and So America also. Whether or not these were figured into the estimate, I don't know.

Where I live I can think of at least 11 plus several in a shop where the owner does Model A restorations and maybe 3 or 4 belong to him. I'm sure there are several more out there I don't know about and this is just one small rural county in N GA.

Mine is the only one I've ever seen in our city of 30,000 or so. I think if I were just starting out in the antique car hobby myself I'd probably be into cars from the fifties.
