Default Isky or Potvin

Did the late Jazzy Nelson use a Isky or Potvin cam in his FH powered car. I do know it was pretty fast for it time. The Bean bandits used to respect it.

Does the 505 represent the lift as the 404 did?

That's amazing. I never heard of that cam before. I wonder if Tom Beaty(sp) was aware of it or maybe it was not a good cam for the salt flats.

Isky only made 3. Only one is left. The 3rd one dissappeared.
I talked to Tom many times at Bonneville but we never discussed cams.
I am sure he was aware of it. It would work very well at Bonneville.

Have you ever tried to grind a 505A or would it be impossible to do without a core to start with?

Pete, what kind of springs do you use for that? Is this a roller cam?

Springs are 4 coil special. Similar to 410 sprint car engine.
This is a radius lifter type. Uses same lifters as 404A.

505 lift. I take it you need a billet cam with no cam bearings in the block? Or you modify the block for that much lift?

Yes on billet core.
Yes on running journals in bare block.
No mods to block for lift.

And here are some pictures of the 505A that Pete is talking about - with some side-by-side shots against the 404A.

I have yet to run the cam, need to build a very "special" engine for it.

And Jazzy Nelson's Coupe . . . probably the fastest drag coupe that ever ran a flathead. Jazzy ran the 404A quite a bit, but "wanted something bigger - and a secret grind" - that is when Ed made the 505 for him.
