Default Dry Lakes Racing

My dad and uncle grew up in Southern California and raced at the dry lakes in the late 30's. My uncle also had one of the first 8mm cameras out there. Several years ago my son and I edited out all the "family-on-the-front-porch-waving" footage and left just the hot rods. I've since learned this is some of the only moving film of dry lakes racing shot before the war. Many of you guys have probably watched this on YouTube, but if you haven't, here's a good way to kill time when you're sitting inside. There are some landmark cars here...

I wonder how many of those poor bastards never made it back from the war to relive the good times they had on the dry lakes....

Great video, some famous cars in there. I believe one of Edsel Fords speedsters, one of the original ford race cars and I am sure a bunch of others to be identified.

Thank you for posting this. Love the guy with the Bugatti race car. I'd assume by 1940, that was considered old technology and bought cheap. Whoever has it today, their family is set for life for the price they command today.

It was only 1 or 1.5 years old at the time.

Kind of a lousy way to refer to all the unfortunate WAR HEROES that gave their lives so that YOUR right to unconditionally enjoy "good times" remained unthreatened!

Great video, Detonator....thank you! DD

While thats not Iskys roadster I believe your correct about the conversion. Also noticed theres a blower on the top of the engine looks like possibly a 371 GMC something Barney Navarro was doing back then. Great history really enjoy seeing where it all began.
