Default Oh yea...brakes

Yesterday I crawled under the 30 Fordor to tighten the brakes a bit before bringing it home. Not a Brake job, just tighten them up to get home safely.
The rear driver side clicked as expected when I used a Crescent wrench to tighten it 3 clicks. I moved to the passenger side, no clicks, just moved. I tried going back, again no clicks, I brought it back to where I guesses was 3 clicks and left her good. The brake petal engages much sooner now, but couldn't get her out of the driveway, I ran out of daylight.
Ended up not bringing her home, gonna try Friday.

So....what causes that ?

Yes, I plan on removing the hubs, checking/packing the wheel bearings all around, and a good grease job when she's on home turf.

Check the length of the adjuster, then tighten or loosen. Did the shaft move in or out?
Could be it is stripped.

The adjusting wedge is worn or the adjusting shafts are worn or stuck. When you said that the brake pedal engages earlier, is it spongy or firm. If spongy it means that the one brake is now taking all the pedal force. If firm it means that all brakes are doing their share.

I suggest you try a full stop at about 20 mph before trying to drive it home. If the car stops within 25 or 30 feet then OK, but if not then either work more on the brakes or put it on a trailer to take it home and work on it there.

Thanks all. The brakes weren't the reason I didn't bring it home, there's 2 other cars blocking it in the driveway. I have been driving it a while, I decided to tighten the shoes to improve stopping distance. It has a good firm petal, and engages sooner than before. It's only a few miles to the house. I've driven it there several times.
