Default Antique horn identification help needed

I've been trying to identify this horn for a number of years and finally decided to ask for some help.

The horn would fit well on either a Model A or a 1932 Ford in the stock location with the right bracket. The projector and bell look identical to a Stewart Warner or Sparton projector and bell. I've had it apart and can't find any identification marks. It's well made and works well.

It would be a great conversation piece on one of my early Fords but I need to know more about it so I'm not unarmed when the questions start.

Anyone know anything about this thing?

Cant say for sure but it looks to me like someone bolted the front of a Model A horn to a motorcycle horn.

Cheers,

A member (thanks, Gary) suggested it could be a beep horn without the cover. I thought of that too, but this is what the beeper looks like nakey.

You may be right, Walt, but someone did a perfect job in fitting if that's the case. It looks more like it came that way from the factory.

Maybe I'll just hang it on my A or B and drive it around a meet and see what turns up.

"Klaxon" (among others) made a lot of different horns for a lot of different applications. It would not have been beyond Sparton, or Noblitt-Sparks, or any of the other Model A ford horn makers to have made something for someone else - and recycle parts from the Ford "A" line.

I think "hanging it" is just the right move. Paint it silver so it shows up? There will be some hothead somewhere who will point out the fact that "HEY - your horn isn't the right one for that car" - and will be able to tell you on what car it SHOULD be.

Your reply (a classic) is "My daddy got that horn on the car from the dealer that way - it must be from the factory." And stick to that no matter what other information comes your way.

Turn human psychology to your favor. Sometime knowledge comes from tumult. And motivation from dispute.

Keep your writing pad handy.

Joe, you must have run into some of the same guys at meets that I have. Put a deuce radiator cap on backwards and see what happens. Your approach sounds more fun than knowing all the answers.

Put the photos up on Early V8 site for the 32 guys to see. It does look like the 32 beep horn, but David G will know for sure.

I didn't know any 32 Fords had vibrator horns. I thought they were all motor driven.

I seem to remember an early Ford truck with that horn, but I can't say for sure.

I don't know if we can upload audio, but it kind of sounds like 'toot'.

If I remember right(and sometimes I think I don't remember much), the late '32s came with beep horns.

Beginning in July of 1932 Ford went to the beep horns. That was the end of the ahooga horn era. Sorry it ended so soon.

That horn in the pictures looks like a Prestolite horn or a copy of it. It is for the late '30s and into the '50s. Hope that helps.

I am not a 32 expert, but my friend is (I did the attached painting for him after helping him pull his 32 fordor out of a barn.) I believe late 32 Fords did have beep horns. His fordor did. He also mentioned something about a different number of louvers in the hood.

However the horn pictured here is too flat to be a 32 Ford horn. As sated above it is probably after market.

Where did you get the different sized Windows from in the painting. When you answer my question you will have 1000 posts. Congratulations. Wayne

I believe a beep horn with a Model A projector may have been manufactured for Model A's in Europe. A fellow club member (now deceased) mentioned that to me once. He was an avid Model A horn collector. I cannot substantiate the assertion however.
