Default 46 Ford pickup 16 inch wheels

We are in need of 2 original 16 inch wheels for our 46 ford pickup which is now being worked on in Rapid City SD. I was told that the correct ones are 4.5 inches between the beads. Can anyone clarify this?? Thanks!

That was the size that was on my 45 pickup when I got it. Original wheels in usable condition are hard to find, at least where I live. Most that I have found are cracked or bent. I'm still needing one more as my spare wheel is usable but just.

There is an advertiser in the for sale section I think NW classics? They are near you, they have a lot of parts. Do a search, or put an ad in the wanted section.
Wheels are not too hard to find, i have a set of those 4.5’s, and one shy of a set of 4‘s, among others.
I know another guy here that has several dozen.

Ford used the 16" 5 on 5 through 1966 on the F100's and passenger cars through '48. The later model, '57-66 will be 5'.5" across the bead. The thing to watch out for are the inside hub cap knobs in lieu of the external knobs..
I think I have at least a half dozen '40-66 4.5." wheels in my wheel stock.

I have seen some 16's on '57-'66, as I believe they were an option then.
15's were the standard wheel offered in those years of F-100's I believe.

I have a cousin that won't drive anything that is not a Ford. When my cousin progressed into modern pickups, '57-66 he always ordered the F100 with 16" wheels, 650 x 16" tube type tires, some little quirk of his.. When he bought a new '73 F100 he had to relent, settling for 15" tubeless tires.
My father who was a ceramic tile contractor had so much trouble with the light weight wheels the '30 model pickups had, I can remember several instances where wheels cracked and broke at the bead, taking the rear fender with it, dad insisted on either having the artillery type wheel or 16" spit rims with 650 x 16 6 ply tires.
As a general rule the 15" & 16" Ford wheels of the mid '60's and later are a HD type wheel, usually stamped with DOT spec numbers, the wheel size 15 x 6 and 2,200 lb. or heavier rating..

Wheels of the Past......You've asked an extremely simple question, with NO definitive answer except for Kube giving GOOD advice as to where to inquire for two QUALITY wheels at a FAIR price. So...........YES, the correct wheels are 16" X 4-1/2" between beads. These wheels are likely easier to find than you might think, because the same wheel was also used on ALL '42-'48 Ford passenger cars. Hope this helps ya. DD

I noted that you stated in your original posting that the truck is in Rapid City, SD being worked on.
Call Moores Auto Salvage in Rapid City, 605 348-4926, this is a huge wrecking yard that I have bought many parts from during the past 15 + years. Nice people to do business with.
