Default JC Whitney now carparts.com?

I just got an email from JC Whitney. If I’m reading this correctly, it looks like they sold out to carparts.com.

J C Whitney, carparts .com? Are they Model A parts suppliers? If so, what is their reputation on quality etc.

JC Whitney is a USA parts supplier that was very popular in the 1960’s and 1970’s. I don’t think they are much of a Model A parts supplier anymore, but I think they do carry some old parts. It’s just a name that most folks my age would recognize in the USA.

J.C. Whitney was the retail business. The spelling is probably wrong, but Warshowski was the wholesale company. In the 60s and 70s they carried an extensive line of A & T parts. I have been to the store several times in the 70s. Very interesting place, I think it must have been their original store from may be the 20s, oil soaked creaky wood floor, it was an old dirty parts store, most of the staff as I recall looked like they were in a bar fight the night before. They had 2 addresses, the front door I believe was on the south side on State street and it had a sign over the door J.C. Whitney, the side door had a different address and the sign said Warshowski but it was the same place and parts counter. One time I had to go to their warehouse to pick up a large item it was on the north side near downtown Chicago, this building was modern, clean, highly waxed floors, the employees were very helpful, in uniforms, clean and professional. When I lived in Idaho in the early 60s I had purchased a lot of my A parts from Warshowski as I could buy them wholesale thru the Chevy dealership I worked for.

IN 1963 I bought a clutch plate for my 1951 MG from J.C. Whitney. Then I installed it backwards.

THAT was very true!

Us kids in Jr. High used to bring their catalogues to school and look at them during Study Hall, and dream about buying the tools and accessories and stuff.

I hate to admit but some of the stuff I bought in the early 70's for Model A wasn't really too bad.

Back then you could still get parts from Sears and Montgomery Ward for Model T's and A's. It was cool to walk in those stores and buy a Model A Ford muffler and a set of tires and tubes, and the tires and tubes from Wards (Riverside) were good quality

Living in Canada I never dealt w/JC Whitney, but I remember seeing their adverts in the back of Popular Mechanics and hot rod magazines back in the '50s.

I've still got a pair of inside chrome door handles for a 29 Roadster bought around 1958 in my tool box. Car long gone.

Wow - old memories. i had a used Renault in 1961 that I had to take the engine out to replace the clutch. Forgot to put the throw out bearing back in. Got about 2 days out of it and finally junked the car and bought a used VW Beetle. Boy do I wish I still had that car!

My Slant Windshield Town Sedan has a Vacuum Wiper Motor that was ordered from J. C. Whitney in 1981. Still works.

I got most of my model A parts from JC Whitney and Warshawsky in the sixties . A lot of their parts were made in Argentina but of good quality . Shipping was usually slow . Though it probably wasn't their fault , I can't help but remember the time that a can of 600 W leaked all over everything in the box of parts that I had ordered . What a mess !!!

Just went to their website. When you select the year of your vehicle it only goes back to 1950. Sorry to say NO model A parts.
