I had a quail on my 29 coupe. Had to take it off because the tail kept hitting the hood when the hood was opened. I ended up drilling a hole in a plain radiator cap and installed a motor meter.

It's also because of the quality pot metal. The birds gets loose and the thermometer breaks.
You then buy another thermometer. Before you can fix it, the bird falls off.

You then spend the rest of your life trying to work out how to stick all the broken bits, and new bits, back together.
Somewhere along the line you buy another new one, as a temporary measure, until you can work out how to get those bits together.

Apparently there are no repair kits for the Motormeter. Has anyone tried to replace the thermometer in one of those? Mine no longer functions. I have installed a temp guage in the cabin which is much more accurate but I would like to get my motormeter working again also.
