Can a long shaft generator be replaced with a short shaft? If so what all needs changed?

all the 28-34 four cylinder generators will interchange as complete assembly

to use long taper shaft with short taper pulley you need a spacer, to use long taper pulley on short taper generator it takes a longer bolt

It's all in the service bulletins, page 447-448

Unmodified model A generators will charge a twelve volt battery . The model A generator doesn't put out as high of amperage as the alternator . The lights won't be as bright but will otherwise work on a twelve volt system .

You can just bolt on a model A generator and cut out and that should do it . A Fun Projects voltage regulator can replace the cut out and give similar voltage regulation as later model cars . I use one on my model A and it looks just like the cut out .
