Default Torque for Flyeheel to crank bolts?

Checked @ 70-85 ft lbs & thought seemed high so thought I’d check, Remembered my old ‘57 Chev 283 was 60 ft lbs. Belt & suspenders

Just checked F-Series manual (49-52), and flywheel bolt torque specification is 75-85 ft-lb.

That is the torque range for a 7/16-20 Grade 8 bolt.

My chart, and what I've always used says 65 ft lbs
Never lost a flywheel, or my legs yet! lol

Checked several places, gonna go w 75ft lbs as I’m using locking wire. Probly Another Dumb question, how do I lock up Engine / flywheel to torque. Barely at 60ft lbs & flywheel turning even w full weight of engine sitting on sprocket ring?

I have a spanner type of device than catches the teeth on the flywheel.

Place a block of wood at 4:00 o'clock flywheel position between flywheel teeth and flat surface below, on PASSENGER side of engine. Push torque wrench in DOWNWARD direction from 2:00 to 4:00 position. DD

65-70 for the bolts with safety wire...80 for the later selflocking.

Here are the values posted on VanPlets site, it depends on bolt type and year range. The first chart is 32-48 and the second is 49-53.

I used an old wrist pin in one of the crank balance holes. That worked well to stop it turning. I used 65 - 70 ft lbs as the figure.

I use a piece of 1"x1" angle iron with a hole, that catches a tooth on the ring gear. Works for removal, too.

Simply clamp a vise grip to the flywheel ring gear. It is shown in Vern Tardels book. I doubted the method, so grabbed a vise grip and torqued the bolts down to 80. No problem at all.
