Default Horn/Light Rod

How critical is the snugness of the fit between the horn/light witch tubular rod and the faceplate? I have one unplated setup that is a very tight fit (no moment) (right side of photo) and another nicely plated (of course) setup that has a fair amount of play when I push the lever from side to side. The snug one seems to have some sort of ‘collar’ swaged at the interface between the tube and faceplate … my loose one seems to be missing this. Since the faceplates are aluminum, this cannot be solder … am considering JB Weld if the fit needs to be really snug.
