Finally got the Standard Phaeton done.
I bought this Thanksgiving day 2008, from Phil at Bert's in Colorado.
It is my first and third restorations, because I did a '29 Tudor in between. I chose Brewster Medium Green, which turns out isn't even a Model A color, but I liked it, so on it went. With some encouragement from Fordbarn members, I had the trunk painted body color for a custom look. It's a Potter trunk manufactured right here in Jackson, also the home of the Sparton horn hanging on the headlight bar. It was a tremendous learning experience. I would do many things differently, and spend half as much, but hindsight is indeed 20/20. We intend to drive it on the MARC National Tour in September, so it's getting some ice cream run miles on it. 14 miles so far, with a few surprises, but nothing major. Thanks to all the Fordbarners who have tolerated my many inquiries and I'll see you all down the road! |

Wow! What a beautiful job you've done on the car. I love the color as wall as the wheel color. You must be extremely proud.

Great looking car! How about listing some of the things you learned in the process that would cause you to do things differently.

My Tudor's Brewster Green "medium," too...with black upper body, belt, moulding and reveals, and an Apple Green stripe. Really "pops," doesn't it?
Enjoy!! |

Re: Finally got the Standard Phaeton done.
Very nice finish ...Straight and black walls too! Left side fender well and not on the right ! A little problem i see with the brake and clutch pedal arms scraping [had the same problem [maybe too much paint...l.o.l.]. Enjoy the beautiful car...

Re: Finally got the Standard Phaeton done.
Good eye, Pete. The pedals did get beat up during assembly. Should have wrapped them with something.
The biggest thing I learned was not to go to a body shop for paint. Go to a restoration shop. Don't buy cheap parts: crap wiring harness from vendor X, better harness with the correct headlight flat bullett ends from Brattons. I regret not looking inside the tranny. It sounds like a box of rocks in second gear. Would have been simple when the body was off. Fit parts (like the dash rail) before paint, even if you thought it fit good when it came off. Plenty more besides these things. Oh, well. Next car will be different, right? |

Nice job on the phaeton Greg. That is an eye catching color. I am partial to the 1930 phaeton since my dad has had his since 1950 (three years longer than me).

Greg,
It's BEAUTIFUL! I hope the one I'm piecing together comes out half as well! Do you have any Phaeton-specific parts left over? R/ Roger. |

Re: Finally got the Standard Phaeton done.
Super nice looking. A question. Does the rubber mat belong under the pedal plates or on top of them? I'm doing a '32 roadster pick up and need to know what is correct.

Re: Finally got the Standard Phaeton done.
Good choice of a single spare. Two spare tires on a Ford A I feel is over dressing it. Ours already had two spares when we purchased the standard phaeton project.

What vehicle came with this color? Do you have acolor code for it? I really like it and will be painting my '32 in the next year.
