Is there a piece of wood, on either side, that runs front to back, to support
the card board? This would be midway up and bolted to the upright support.
I think it would look like a " lathing strip ". Thanks

There's also two metal strips at the top under or behind rain gutter

Steve.. just now looked it up, great, do you think it runs to the " B " pillar on a rdster?

I would amigine that they all ran in the same direction, from point A to point B within the compartment no matter what model.

What year , I don't think the body style makes a difference ? Boy, it does make sense

Dudley I'm going by memory ha I think they went between the gutter and T strip they came out of a 28-29 coupe to hold the cardboard at the top. Hung a inch or so below the gutter.

Dennis...My tin strips are bolted to the inside, closest to the wheel wells, didn't know
they were there.

Doug...28-29 VS 30-31, same thing only slightly different, I now know were I am going.
Nice tin work( repop?), the wheel wells look like they were a work out.

If you are not too far along, the here is something to consider. For sound deadening, and you might say water proofing as well, I added some inexpensive “fixes.” I first cut templates out of Tar paper that fit over the rear tire well and all along the rear quarter. I then spread a very thick application of roofing tar (about a ¼ inch thick) over the entire area that would be under the tar paper template. I then installed the tar paper, which acts to hold the roofing tar in place until it sets. The scrap piece of tar paper I got from a buddy and the roofing tar came from the home center in gallon cans for just a few bucks. I also did the same for the front kick panels. Just an idea and it is a lot cheaper than some of the other methods.

I wonder if the tar & tar paper application should have been done after the inside of the body was painted?

After three heavy coats of epoxy primer, I figured the inside was good enough. I made a steel square tubing sub frame to support the body allowing me to easily get to every nook and cranny. So no I did not put the roofing tar over bare metal. A good catch if I was not clear on my other post,, thanks

I have a late '31 coupe that does not show any indication of the wood strips ever being installed. The vertical steel bars have the proper holes for the wood strip. This car has the trunk lid, not the rumbleseat. Were the strips used as late as '31, and were they used with the trunk lid arrangement? Thanks.
