Default grease fitting on springs

I have an NOS front spring set from Dennis Carpenter on my 39 pickup. Love the proper height and ride. It has the special nut and grease fitting for the center spring bolt. Removing it, I note there is a side channel for the grease to pass the nut threads and reach the bottom spring leaf. I guess then the grease travels up around the centering bolt and spreads out under the spring leaves?

For my old rear spring, I don't have the grease fitting or special nut. I notice Roy Nacewicz offers them in his excellent catalogue. If I instal the special fitting and nut, can I expect the grease to follow the centering bolt and spread out on all spring leaves? Meaning is there special paths for grease flow on springs that have the grease fitting?

My stock springs have a channel, for lube to travel, from the center bolt hole out on each leaf. IMO the centering bolt won't take much to block the flow of grease to the springs. A light weight lube is less likey to cause a blockage.

hi,
I INSTALLED THE SAME SPECIAL BOLT IN MY MODEL A. I ASKED A FRIEND IF HE HAD EVER HEARD ABOUT THEM AND HE SAID NO, AND HE SAID I WOULD NOT USE ONE. HE SEEMS TO THINK THE GREASE SLOT COULD MAKE THE BOLT WEAKR. HAS THERE EVER BEEN ANY COMPLAINTS OF THIS TYPE BOLD FAILING?

Al, the bolt is more for keeping the spring pack together & centered in the frame before the U-bolt are installed. Once the U-bolts are tighen, the center bolt is under very little stress.

Originally the 'grease' was more akin to a thick oil. Think of the STP Oil Treatment of years gone by. Grease is a BAD idea as it will not flow and will become hard with age. Ford advised it's mechanics to NOT use grease of any sort.
I would strongly advise you to take apart the NOS spring before installing it and clean out the old crusted lubricant now in there.
A couple of fellows expressed concern of the strength of the center bolt. I have never seen one snap in all of years. One must remember that once installed there is very little pressure exerted upon that bolt.
