BB Wheel Paint
Before I invest in the judging standards, does anyone know if there are any references in there to BBs? Probably not. I'm specifically interested in knowing if the wheels have the silver outer edge like the photos of AAs I've seen.
Thanks. David |

Re: BB Wheel Paint
There are some pictures of BB wheels in the March 1934
Service Bulletins and the rings are cadmium plated. Bob |

Re: BB Wheel Paint
Model A and probably B have a cinch ring to seal the edge of the tire. It's cad plated.

Re: BB Wheel Paint
It is common practice to paint the edge of the wheel rim silver to match the cad plated cinch ring, but originally the wheel was all black, and only the cad plated ring was silver color. So on a 28 with wire wheels, or a 29 with concave dished wheels, the cad plated ring would show on front and rear. On a 30 (either with early or late cab) with Budd wheels, the cad plated ring would show front and rear if fitted with single rear wheels, but if fitted with dual rear wheels, the rear outer wheel would be all black, as the ring would be inboard.

Re: BB Wheel Paint
The Model A Ford Restoration Guidelines cover Ford cars and trucks (AA) made from 1928 to 1931. The Model A Restoration and Guidelines DO NOT cover vehicles made from 1932 to 1934. So to answer your question, there is no references to BB trucks.

Re: BB Wheel Paint
The 1932 Ford Judging and Restoration Standards published by the Early Ford V8 Club of America, Inc. does not contain references to BB wheels. However, 32 and 33 BB wheels were the same as Model AA wheels. Wheels were black or colors at extra cost with a cadmium plated rings.

Re: BB Wheel Paint
Sorry, I should have been more specific! The 1932 Ford Book by David Rehor states that "The 20" disc wheels used on 131 1/2 wheelbase and 157" wheelbase trucks were carryover Model A parts". I'm assuming carry over means 31 AA wheels as the 28 and 29 AA wheels ARE different. Also, the 1934 BB wheels have a larger center opening and bolt pattern to accommodate the floating rear axle. Also a 6" width wheel was available in 1934. So, yes, the statement "AA wheels and BB wheels are not the same" is a valid statement. If there is more to this story, please continue the discussion! I love to learn!

Re: BB Wheel Paint
Like Vince said Ford came out with a different wheel and lock ring some
time in 32 and the lock rings are not interchangeable. Bob |
