Default OLD Optima still going......

Visiting the family farm, a cousin told me to check out the battery in Uncle John's old '47 Model B John Deere. As was his habit, he scratched the install date in the side of his batteries. I was amazed when I lifted the seat and saw "12/98" on the old Optima. That makes the thing 15.5 year sold and it still cranks the old two cylinder Deere just fine.

I have had bad luck with the 12 volt versions and after having three of them die in less than 4 years, I went back to FLA batteries. I had heard the company was sold some years back and the new batteries weren't nearly as good as the old ones. If they would last like this, I'd have them in everything I own.

we use them in our jeeps, they have gone down hill since they were bought out. They aren't the same quality. We've had decent lunch keeping a battery tender on them and making them last, but nothing like the older versions.

Optima batteries fall into two categories: Good as in made in the USA and Bad as in Heche en Mexico.

It's not just Optima, the last Sears Diehard Platinum I got didn't last worth a flip!. Only good thing was that I got a full refund on it, even after 3+ years. Even more surprising was that they refunded me TODAY's price, even though it was a lot more than I paid for it originally.
