Default Ford v. Mercury flatheads

does anyone know if the bellhousing from a '50 ford L-head 6 will fit a '50 Mercury V8 (255 ci)

All the 8BA engine family share the same block & bell housing pattern but the G & H series 6-cylinder engines use a flat plate bolted to the block to attach the starter & bell housing. The 6-cylinder bell housings have different pattern than any of the 8BA family of V8s.

If anyone is interested, the truck "H" series 6 and car "H" series 6 are two different animals. Bells, engine plates and oil pans differ and do not interchange. The first two in each photo shows in order: truck, car. The next is truck, the next is car.

That's because the trucks use the old-style transmission with its own bell.
