Default Optima Battery Holder

I received the holder for my Optima battery yesterday and lacking anything better to do, I went ahead and primed and painted it. Big mistake. This morning I noticed that the bolt hole looked a but under size, and sure enough they were, so I dutifully enlarged them so the bolt will pass through. Good so far? Well not really. The bracket is approximately an inch and a half too long (eyeball measurement) to secure it with the battery box bolts. So I have to determine where to cut and weld. Should have made my own bracket. May go back to the bungee cord someone mentioned. Anyone else have similar problem?

That should be a "bit" undersize.

Where did you buy this bracket? There are different ones out there.

Bratton's, and I would return it but can't complain, as I was fool enough to paint it before I noticed it would need modification to work. I'm not blaming them, I should have tried it first, just got a bit too trusting. Won't do that next time out.

Had a similar problem with the holder I bought for my '28 roadster. I had to do some judicious cutting of a mounting tab as it wouldn't go past the frame rail properly. And it was nicely powder coated. When I mentioned it to the vendor, the reply was that the bracket wasn't right for the 1928's. Well, duh!
But it's in place now and I really didn't like the bungee cord option.

I used the angle iron bracket sold for the group 1 battery, held it just fine for 16 years
