Default O/D Relay Bench Test?

I'm getting parts together for an O/D install. I found a used relay, how can I bench test this? Thanks.

Put 6V to it and see if the plunger moves...

I believe He is talking relay, not solenoid.
Relay- put battery power to the fused terminal, then touch the governor terminal with a wire from the ground side of the battery, should click in.

In addition to 42 merc's reply, here is what I have found on these relays. First, apply 6V to the input/fuse and with the contacts pulled in you should read the exact same voltage at the Sol tab. Most times the output voltage will be lower and cause the solenoid not to pull in due to the following. The fuse holders and output tabs are held on by rivets which over the years can carrode or become somewhat loose, thus causing a bad connection. I clean these areas and with good flux and a fairly large soldering iron, I solder all rivet connections, even the ones under the contact cover. If you have a solenoid, you can bench test the complete circuit, using the ground connection as the governor.

Just remember the relay is triggered by ground.

And when it's tested and ready, a touch of Eastwood's Clear Zink makes it look like new...
