Ford Branded Spark Plugs by Champion
Hi,
I was pawing through an "antique" store today, when I stumbled across a box of NOS assorted spark plugs. In the box were a few 3X plugs that might have been used, but they were pretty decent looking, but also near the box on the shelf were assorted plugs, all appeared to be used. I saw this Champion Plug with the Ford name on it. Apparently Ford commissioned private labeled plugs from Champion. Would these be 3X plugs? There was nothing on them except the Champion and Ford name, as you can see it is not in Ford Script.

Re: Ford Branded Spark Plugs by Champion
I'm curious to know more about these as well. I've often wondered how they compare to the 3X plugs.

Re: Ford Branded Spark Plugs by Champion
They are all still there, he wants $5 a piece for them. I may go back and try it to get a better look and document a few. He had quite a few I have never seen before.
I'll post my picture over on the T side. Thx.

Re: Ford Branded Spark Plugs by Champion
the late Model T X plug cores will fit in the 28-29 bases and the C4 cores will fit in the 30-31 bases, ford and Champion both use to sell replacement cores, they were numbered I know the 30-31 replacement core was a #3 I have a NOS #3 ford box with a 3X cores in it and I have a #3 ford box with a core in it that is the same but only has Champion on it. I`m not sure on the 28-29, on the early AR #3 plugs the core is the same as a 30-31 core. a lot of the old ford boxes had dates on the inside of one end so it can give you some kind of idea when they were made.

Re: Ford Branded Spark Plugs by Champion
Well, the guys on the "T" side say that they are not a "T" plug. I'm gonna' try to get back in next week and take another look, I might pick them and a few others up just for the curiosity factor.
Mike, Is this what you are looking for?

Re: Ford Branded Spark Plugs by Champion
I am running a full set of the plugs pictured. They came with my '30 Cabriolet before I restored it. In a thread a few months ago on Ford labeled Champion plugs, they were thought to be aftermarket replacement, dealer installed plugs. They are Model A plugs.
When I point them out to people, they say they have never seen plugs like that before. Probably not many around and still being used. Dick Wyckoff |

"T" plugs have pipe threads instead of machine threads, so they're right.

Re: Ford Branded Spark Plugs by Champion
in the first picture with the rusty plug and $10 gauge
that is not a Model A plug it is the Number 1 style i believe it was used on the early V8s its a different heat range it will work in a Model A as the threads are correct champion made #3 plugs that fit in many different cars as seen in the chart Ford plugs had a X suffix hence the Ts were X plugs and the Model A were 3X here are a few Ford plugs that will fit the Model A theres also a box with the Ford and champion logo on it also theres a Franklin core with the champion brand so they didnt just make them with ford script on them ive also seen Maytag scripted champion plugs ive also included a NOS champion 3X for comparison tom |

Great! I'm not worried about the condition of the bases.
