Default Graphite rope seal "Questions"

Dear Friends!

I hope all of you be all right.
I have to assembly my V8 1946 and i have some doubts. I must install the graphite rope in the U-shape as it is showed in the picture.
My question is,
1)How long must the rope be in the upper and lower U-shape?
2)Must I make any threat such as put the rope in oil an entire day? avoid the dry rope against rotating metal?

Please I hope you can understand what I mean, I need your advice.

Thank you very much

Hary,
There should have been easy to follow instructions with your gasget set. It should contain an adjustable knife and a thickness guage that is "U" shaped which fits around the ends of your graphite seal. Once cut, it gives you the proper amount of rope sticking out past the flange. As for lubrication, the graphite already in the rope is the lube. Non-lubricated ropes can be soaked.
Good luck with your build.

From gasket kit

GraphTite Rope Rear Main Seal Installation
(general Instructions - not applicatuion specific)

* This Graphtite rope seal is of proven, superior quality,
however, careful attention must be paid when trimming
to avoid fraying.

* Do not pre-soak in oil

* Press rope into place. Use a smooth rod, like a socket
extension, to press in and compact rope to approximate
the crankshaft seal journal diameter.

* Trim rope about .015" beyond flush using spacer. Cut
through rope and slightly into wood stick to ensure a
clean cut. (stick, spacer, and knife provided)

* Press protruding ends of rope down flush. Push any
loose strands toward the center of rope end. Apply
startup lube to rope surface.

* Coat all cap to block mating surfaces with sealant. DO
Not apply sealant on rope ends.
