Re: Restoration Qs... trunk / rumble
I knew about the wood & metal strips but can't find sizes anywhere.
On the wood the length is easy to figure out but what is the width and thickness of the wood strips? Dennis thanks for the pics of the metal ones now I know what I need to do. |

Re: Restoration Qs... trunk / rumble
Dudley,
Did you get the dimensions for the wood strips in the rumble seat area? I see you think they are 5/16" x 1 1/4" wood. How long are they, or do you know? Dennis Pereira sent me a nice sketch of the thin metal strips that fit between the trunk rain gutters and the T strips. He has been very helpful when I need something. If you find out the dimensions, which I think are different than 30/31's, please let me know. I am still not sure quite how the side panels are fastened to the wood strips, the thin metal pieces and at the bottom. Thanks, Rusty |

Re: Restoration Qs... trunk / rumble
Rusty,
Arrived at that size from a small piece that was still held on by the flat head screw behind the rumble pivot bracket at the rear of the body. Also another screw an nut( no wood ) on the forward vertical brace, in front of the wheel well. The length, ? , Marco's goes just past the forward vertical on his 30-31 rdst, my car is 28 rdst . How are the card board panels held? Not sure, I still have cb stuck in the upper part...maybe " faith " wedged top and bottom, I think Mr. Rude would know. Take care, Dudley |

Re: Restoration Qs... trunk / rumble
Dudley,
I am thinking more and more that the upper edge of the side panels are just wedged up between the rain gutter and the metal strips with 4 mounting hole in them. I noticed on my coupe the rain gutter is about 3/16" to 1/4" wider than the T strips. Once the metal strips are attached on the quarter panel side like you think they are, the side panels could be wedged in between the rain gutter and the strips. Maybe someone will response with "real" info on this. Rusty |

The wood strips in the rumble area of my Feb. 29 Roadster measure: 29 3/4" long ! 3/4" wide !/4 " thick. They appear to be oak ? but are a hard wood. Ron |

Re: Restoration Qs... trunk / rumble
Richard,
If your car was originally a trunk, then I highly doubt it very much, say 99.99999999%, that the wooden strips were not assigned to cars with trunks. However, as you say, you should have the holes just incase it was to be switched to a rumbleseat. Pluck |

Re: Restoration Qs... trunk / rumble
Dudley,
Thanks for checking on that for me. Originally I think they may have been Ash, nice straight grain & stable, but as I stated in the PM the parts book lists a # but the footnote reads to be made locally, so I suppose replacements may have been made of whatever was on hand. Fabbed up the metal pieces now I just need to whittle out the wooden ones. Ted |

Re: Restoration Qs... trunk / rumble
There is no panels in my Roadster rumble area; it has a regular trunk lid.
Possible sometime in the past it was going to be converted to a rumble lid ? Seem to recall from years ago seeing original panels secured with wood screws with eyelets ? Labron-Bonney probable shows in their catalog the attachment hardware ? I don't have a catalog. Ron |

Re: Restoration Qs... trunk / rumble
Ron in Quincy,
You are correct, accordind to the rumble seat conversion info in both Les Andrews book and How to Restore your Model A, screws through the panels into the wood strips. Ted |
