Default 5 Bearing cam ?

Does anyone make a FIVE (5) bearing cam for A/B block ?
It can be a blank that needs to be machined (preferred)

I think that I remember Bill Stipe having such equipment ? He is not in business currently, I've heard.

What would it be good for? Most blocks are not made for the 5 bearing cam.

2 journals can be added to a stock core but that limits you to a grind that will go over a stock lobe. The better solution is a steel billet. If you go with a billet, you can have the journals oversize also. This will give you access to more grind possibilities.

If that is so, it's not good news. Maybe an opportunity for someone else if he has retired or for some other reason not going to go on.

Stipe Machine: Tony, Bill's son, is operating the business. I believe Bill drops in on the business occasionally...

Phew! If that company stopped doing what they do for our movement, we all would be the poorer for it.

Hard times, Do you really need 5 brgs? I run Bonneville, 140 lbs. spring pressure, 1.6:1 rockers, all on a stock re-grind with hand-fabricated supports under the cam, no problems. 5 mains may be better, as is a billet cam with larger brgs, but the expense goes way up!

Jim,

Rick is building a Donovan motor. The oiling system has a tizzy fit if you do not use a 5 bearing cam.

Hey Jim B,
John is correct, a D it is.

I got a 5 bearing ('28 cam) from you maybe year or two ago. You set it up for me (dual grind) to run a cast iron 4 port Riley on a D engine. Can't remember the numbers, but the head situation has been changed to a Serr 8 port, when it gets done.
So, the builder wants a billet so that he can make the HP that the D will easily handle. He said same thing as you...i.e.- can use 3 bearing. I said that that is silly when it is equipped with 5 ! Besides, if only three bearings are used, two bearings without oil holes have to be installed to BLOCK the existing oil holes in block. That would be wasteful, eh.

So, that's reason for original Q.

If I find a home for it, your 5 bearing product will go with Riley that you cut it for !

Hey Pete,
Hm, greek to me ! I failed both math and cam making.
