1932-33 Engine mounts?
yesterday i got a wooden box with some flathead stuff in it, most of it i recognized, but there was this set of Engine mounts,
I guss they started to manufacture them for the 32. since it has a number 18-6031 cast in one of them. Can someone confirm what year/years they will fit? |

Re: 1932-33 Engine mounts?
Those are relatively rare early '32 V-8 engine mounts used with early flat front cross members (those without depressions stamped in for the motor mount insulators) and extremely rare B-6038-A insulators that are threaded in the center and have two opposing 'ears' which bolt to the cross member. The later V-8 mounts are thinner at the insulator end and the hole there is slotted instead of round. Those were used with the common B-6038-C insulators and front cross members with the depressions for that type of insulator stamped in.

Re: 1932-33 Engine mounts?
I have a pair of what sound like the later V8 mounts, but there is no part number cast on them: are these repros? If so, who makes them, as I need another pair?

Re: 1932-33 Engine mounts?
In my experience, most originals do not have the part # cast into them. Out of 6-8 or so late '32 mounts that I've had, only one has had a part #. The one I have with the part #, is also a LH like the one above. All were original. The originals are forgings, not castings like the repros. Typically, forgings are much stronger. Not sure how strong the repros are.

They look like they have been ground on the web for belt clearance.

They look whole to me. A little grinding is not unusual on these, evidently during their manufacture (only the left side one in the photos shows evidence of it and its profile is still consistent with the right side one and others that show no grinding evidence).

Earliest '33 ones were similar in style but quite a lot shorter in the horizontal arm.

Re: 1932-33 Engine mounts?
Very common to see grinding on forged parts as well as cast parts. They have the same type of line as a parting line on cast parts, but usually is much larger on a forged part. Easiest place to see this size difference is to look at a cast crankshaft vs a forged crankshaft for same engine.
