Houdaille shock cover question
I am planning on rebuilding a set of Houdaille shocks, but the covers on this set are different from others I have rebuilt. These shocks have only a taller cover that tapers at the end; there is no lock ring or O-ring.
Has anyone ever disassembled a shock with this type cover? If I do get these apart, what would be the best way to reseal them since there is no lock ring or o-ring? Last edited by 30cabriolet; 05-14-2010 at 04:47 PM. |

Re: Houdaille shock cover question
I think you have the crimped on type like my 36, they do not like to come off ,in talking to some rebuilders I have been told the housing gets threaded for a different cover ---I had thought about the possibility of welding on a new lip and re-crimping them.

Re: Houdaille shock cover question
Sounds like these are the press-on type from after model a time period, and not rebuildable. Suggest you start searching for a set of rebuildable cores, or contact robert paul in yoder colorado, he advertises in marc/model a news. He has what you need, and is a reputable long time rebuilder.
