modern point set follow-up
The reason that I posted earlier was that after a drive yesterday I noticed that the the car did have its normal power. and found that the spark was weak. I took the distributor cap and body off and found that that point gap was was quite large.
The points I was using was an Echlin CS 755 set. I found that the spring on the contact set was quite strong and seemed to to push the plate out of position causing the point gap to increase. I searched the NAPA website and found there a several sets that work for these Ford V/8 engines. My local NAPA had the three different sets sent to the store so I could compare them. They were the, CS751,CS755 and the heavy duty set. What I found out was that the CS755 spring was quite strong and the tension on the heavy duty set was really strong. I went with the CS 751 {standard set}. I think this will solve my problem, if not I'll let you know. Some side info the screw size used on the point plat are 8-32. Steve |

Re: modern point set follow-up
Sounds like the upper bushing in your distributor is worn. Point spring tension should not affect the gap in any way. Could be the upper plate is worn as well.

It would have been more consistent to update your original thread instead of starting a new one.
