As a possible "helpful hint", my nephew and I worked on the interior lighting for our '29 Town Sedan last weekend. The original dome light socket was no longer functional, so we used a replacement "side marker light socket" from Auto Zone. I'm currently out of town and don't recall the part no. (its a farily common part though), but it slipped in from the interior portion of the light, and then required only a slight amount of crimping to secure it from the back side. Of course the side marker bulbs are plentiful as well. Hope this will help any of you that may be considering a repair of your dome light.

How about a picture of the new fangled "side marker light socket" installed.

I am regrettably still out of town until mid-February, but will see what I can do about getting a picture to post once I return. I will say though that the "lip" on the socket section is a fairly soft rubbery compound that will easily slip into the backing plate and hold (because of the size of the lip on the new side marker light socket) once the opening in the backing plate is crimped around the new socket. Crimping the sleeve on the back of the original light fixture will prevent the new socket from sliding forward into the light opening.

I am running a 12-volt system for various reasons, so I am not certain about its application for 6-volt applications. Perhaps someone with more electrical knowledge than I could comment on this question? Thanks for your comments.
