Gas door spring
Anyone have pictures of how the gas door spring is installed on a '48 coupe?
Thanks |

Re: Gas door spring
There's a couple of indentations the spring slips into on each end. Hard to see! Just installed mine.

Re: Gas door spring
That's about the best I can do Lawson! I haven't been into racing in many years but I remember a drag strip in Covington and another one nearby back in the late 50's and 60's.Are they still there? We used to run a circuit from B'ham on Friday to Atl.Ga.on Sat. to Albany on Sun. noon and Phoenix City Sun. evening! 2 lane highways. When you're young, you can do most anything.I like your truck!

Re: Gas door spring
This is a later type from a body catalog but the spring was the same back to 1942. It just fits into the slots. One on the hinge and one on the lid. Spring tension holds it in place. My 51 Mercury uses the same spring. Sorry for resizing the pick too small. The slots in the door assembly are not very visible. If you want a larger one, I can post it again. Re: Gas door spring
Dear Lord, what an awful thing that happened at that track.I was transferred to Miami in 1965 and never heard about the accident. Most of us were really lucky in those days and didn't even realize it.
