Default Need a new boot for clutch lever

I am having a problem finding the leather/or rubber cover for the clutch lever which goes inside the bellhousing - The transmission has the following number stamped on it: R10F-1 It also looks as if the bolt attaching to that lever is missing a retaining pin - seems to be at the max of adjustment too which is odd because there is a very new clutch in it.

My apologies - this is for a 1953 Mercury with V8 Flathead

The R-10 just indicates the Borg Warner R-10 overdrive. That rod may not be the OEM part or there may be wear in the eye at the other end or possibly on the shoulder bolt. The AB-7521-A release rod is 9 1/4" long and is a 52/53 part. I wouldn't worry about it being at the end of adjustment as long as it makes the correct adjustment. The parts book shows a cone nut and a lock nut on the rod but that stuff isn't visible in the photo. All that I can see there looks OK with respect to what is supposed to be there.

Richard

I see it - is there supposed to be a felt or cork seal behind it as well - or is that all I need

The boot is all that's illustrated. I looked again at the photo only with a larger monitor to view it on and it looks like the actuator rod has a bend at the other end like the older 1949 thru 51 Fords. The 52 & 53 rod has an eye on the front and a shoulder bolt for the pivot connection. This may be why it's short. It may also be a home fabricated item since it shouldn't need a drilled hole at the end indicating a cotter pin hole. This type of stuff does wear out so someone likley did a shade tree repair.
