Default L100 cam with original lifters?

The rebuild of my 8ba will likely include the L100 cam. I am hoping to use the original lifters. However, I expect that the L100 regrind will have reduced the dimension of the base circle. I figure this will increase the clearance between the lifters and the original valves.(?)

So, if my thinking is correct, it may be advantageous to get a set of Chevy valves; perhaps their 0.100" great length may allow for a satisfactory arrangement (butt grinding.) Or, switch to adjustable lifters and retain the original valves.

Anybody have experience with this? Thanks. Richard

If your valvetrain is good you can always add lashcaps to get some added lenght of the valves.

.............. just my humble opinion, but I would treat that new L100 bump stick to a new set of quality adjustable lifters. Others may differ, just my .02 cents.

You could use the old lifters, but they should be reconditioned as a minimum.

Before you commit to an L100, take heed of what our own Pete says about the Isky 1007b from another forum:

"The 1007B has something none of those other cams have.
A higher rate of lift.
This equals more mid range power where you need it with a street engine."

There is one thing you have to understand about an L-100 cam. It is a dual pattern cam, intake 246 @.050 and ex 235 @ .o5o" and 360 net lift. When I first saw this I doubted it could be driven on the street in a heavy vehicle. However, the engine was installed in a 5500 lb ambulance. That was sometime in the late 80's and I became a believer ever since. The Isky 1007B is a very good cam, unfortunately, theonly way to prove one way or another which cam was the best would be very difficult. I've run them both.

I also use chevy valves with the L-100, as they're .060" longer and keep the adj lifter, less likely to loosen.
