Default may need temp garage space for my cars

Hi All,

I am 99% sure that we will be moving in the summer to the Seattle area. So I will need temporary garage space for my cars. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mike

Looks like you’re in California and moving to Seattle? If the temporary storage needs to be in Seattle or California and you can’t find a warehouse type storage you could always have a shipping container brought to your property if you have room and store them inside it. I know someone who has a 30 model a truck, a 60’s mustang and a 57 thunderbird all in one 40’ container. I wouldn’t do this long term because of condensation but it should be fine short term. You may not have the same condensation problems there that we have here. When finished they pick the container up.

You could also check with self storage companies about their units, some being climate controlled. Good luck and let us know what you decide as it might help others.

We are looking for a house in Virginia to move to in a couple years. We have restricted our search to houses with detached shops.

Depending on whether you intend to store in California or Seattle you could advertise for storage there in the local Craigslist. Someone with a large shop or storage building may respond.

It will be a permanent move and we will probably rent for a few months to get the lay of the land. I lost a spot in my parents garage as they are going to move before we get there. It only needs to be for about 6 months while we look for a house. I am guessing near the Tacoma area on the east side. A container doesn’t sound to bad….

When I was having my modular garage installed I put my 40 in a garage unit at the local storage facility, cost me about $80/mo. Well worth it. It might be aable to get a "deal" if you commit to a long term AND ask for the Senior discount if it applies. Make sure you're insured.

As Paul stated 'MAKE SURE YOU ARE INSURED.'

This past weekend some a-hole broke into an associates Storage Garage in one of those multi unit storage for rent deals not far from me, and cleaned out his antique gas pumps, porcelain signs, and petroleum collectibles that he had put in there temporarily while he built a new garage.

He contacted his home owner's insurance, and do you want to take a guess what they told him???

Yeah, he is SOL and too bad so sad was their response. Because it was in a rented storage unit. If it had been at his house they would have helped him. Now he gets nothing, nada, zilch.

Yup- the security in those self storage places leaves a lot to be desired. Jeff's friends experience is not unlike what happened to a friend of mine, so be aware.

so if you are not covered by the storage unit, then take back up insurance to make sure you are covered. isnt worth the loss........

If you have items stored anywhere other than home you need renters insurance. The place you rent storage from can’t carry insurance on your items, that’s up to you. I know this because I rent containers and dedicated units built on my property for rent. It might vary by state but in general it’s as above.
