Default Fuel shut off valve leak

I have a leaking shut off valve in my 1928 35A Phaeton Canadian built RHD. I have taken it apart and have noticed some minor scoring in the lower part of the brass tapered body. Is there away that this can easily and safely be made serviceable and leak proof again? Or should I just purchase a replacement fuel shut off valve?

Lap with 20 Mule Team Borax, Arm & Hammer washing soda or maybe Comet or other kitchen cleanser with an abrasive.

Timesaver fine lapping compound may be more appropriate. It's made for stuff like that. It still takes time to hand fit valves but it can be done.

Try some real fine sand paper or emery cloth.

I would go with the Timesaver, yellow color is for soft materials like brass. Then lube with EZ Turn available from Langs: https://www.modeltford.com/item/2902LUB.aspx. This lubricant is a grease that does not dissolve in gasoline. It will help seal the petcock and make it easier to turn and help to keep it from wearing out again.

After you get it to seal again I recommend you install a gas tank screen (pencil filter). https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/p...9346&cat=41707

IIRC, Tom W recommended using toothpaste for a lapping compound on fuel shutoff valves.

If the scoring is minor, as you say, this will do the trick. I've posted about this one I don't know how many times.

I have found this kit works good on an original valve, repros not so good. Most repros I have seen have "o" rings, not packing.

Can you tell me if these repair kits work with the repo valves now being sold?

The OP didn't say anything about it being a replacement valve. I've never seen one of those so I can't comment either way.
