1940 Ford Coupe body belt stainless clips
Did the 40 coupe use any t-bolt type trim clips on the side stainless mouldings? Or did they use all the wire clips to attach the stainless. I know later model ford , during the 50's , used one t-blot clip on the front end of the door and quarter stainless, just wondering if they used those on the 40 coupe.
Thanks, Steve |

I cannot remember the correct amount, my coupe had at least one bolt type clip on each piece of moulding. Including the cowl piece. Kube will most likely have the best answer for you.

Yes, several of those T- bolt clips were used on the 40.
Can't recall which trim piece gets them and their location. However, I think they go on the ends. This might help. http://cgfordparts.com/wwwsectionfil..._clip_kit.html |

Re: 1940 Ford Coupe body belt stainless clips
The doors did not originally use any "T" clips. The hood side trim utilized one "T" clip at the very front and one at the very rear. Quarter moldings were installed the same - one front and one rear.
When I restore a car, I typically use numerous "T" clips on both the doors and quarter moldings to best hold them in the pace I choose. The hood trim receives only the authentic front & rear "T" clips.

You an get trim clip kits from C&G (800/266-0470), There are two kinds, one for the standard '40, the other for the deluxe.

Re: 1940 Ford Coupe body belt stainless clips
does anybody sell just the t bolt type clips. I could use about 12. They are 5/8 inch across to fit the 40 Ford stainless.
Here's a picture of one. Thanks! Steve |

I made some. Drill holes in a flat strap, tack bolts in, cut off with chop saw.

Re: 1940 Ford Coupe body belt stainless clips
The kits are not expensive, and if any clips don't hold, it is good to have more handy. A word of caution with the T clips. It is very easy to strip the threads, makng tightening and/or removal difficult. Found that out the had way.
