Unhappy Water in oil

Parked truck last fall with intake off. Thought I had it well waterproofed. Checked yesterday and found on draining the oil that there was almost three quarts of water. I canstill trun it over by hand. Not stuck although the reason I started to take it apart was stuck valves. Should I put some fresh oil in for now and circulated it? Any possible damage? Could inards be damaged by freezing the water in the oil pan? Motor is comming out in the next week or so to get at the innards. Oh it's an 8BA style mercury in a 39 Dump Truck.

Thanks ML

I doubt anything was hurt by it, The water was not circulated while the engine was running. anything in the pan was at the bottom not at the top. Id just drain the oil good and put it back together, and call yourself lucky.

When you pull the motor, inspect it for damage. You don't have to worry about the oil, you need to put coolant in and see if it stays in there before you put oil back in.

If it had water in the block when it froze, look for cracks along the pan rail, on the inside... also behind the valve springs... Karl

run it and then change the oil. you can substitute a qt. of ATF but don't run for extended amount of time before changing oil.

When I bought the 39 std. it had water in the oil. First I check the head torque and one head was off a bit 45 pounds. So I put a new head gasket on that side and torque the prober torque and that was it.Do that first.
