Re: adapter t-5 transmission to model a moter
This isn't exactly Ford Barn friendly but you can see how it will work for a stock frame set up.

Re: adapter t-5 transmission to model a moter
You can use the stock A crossmember with a T-5. I fabricated the reinforcement piece, drilled holes and bolted it into place before cutting the cross member. You can use the stock radius rods by welding a 1/4" X 1-1/2" flat stock on the radius rod seam. You can just barely see it in the first photo. It will go much faster if you drill lightening holes in the flat stock! In the first shot, you can see how I used the stock brake set up to operate a master cylinder located under the passenger side floor board

Harleytoprock:
The plan is to make a trans mount and add a mount under that for the Radious rods . The kit that Auto resortration sold had the Rods hook to the bottom of the T-5. Serr's Kit does not call for a trans mount but I am not sure I like that, thats why I am adding one. Skip |

Re: adapter t-5 transmission to model a moter
dusty, The Auto Restoration kit radius rod mount had the radius rod connection way low. This made the rear change angle and created poor driveshaft alignment . I guess you also have plans for beefier radius rods.

If you look down this list, you'll find that many ratios were used on the T5.

Re: adapter t-5 transmission to model a moter
I just assume all of us with right hand drive model a's are out of luck, unless we somehow come up with a rhd AA bell housing?

Re: adapter t-5 transmission to model a moter
I have a AA bell housing and a "new T-5". When using a AA bell housing I have question:
*Does the face of the AA bell housing have enough real-estate to just drill 4 mounting holes with no adapter plate? * What clutch arm, clutch plate and clutch disc is recommended? I already have a new V-8 clutch from Snyders. * I want to keep the torque tube arrangement. When shortening the Tube and Drive shaft.....How much is sectioned from both? Can I use a shaft coupling from these folks? http://www.staffordmfg.com/Search.as...FWpk7AodBDQAKg Do you have a tail piece adapter for this approach? Cost? Hope you have a great Holiday, looking forward to your reply! |

Re: adapter t-5 transmission to model a moter
Here is an adapter to get a T5 transmission to an A/B block that can be made with no machine tools. (lathe, mill)
All you need is a sawzall, a 3/8 drill motor and some rotary files. All you need is a magnet base indicator to align it with the engine. This uses a stock Chev V8 bell housing or Lakewood scatter shield, a hydraulic clutch slave cylinder, stock Chev clutch and pressure plate and a 12 lb CHEV aluminum flywheel. The S10 T5 bolts right on. You can either use a Crazydaddyo adapter to torque tube or run an open driveline with center mounted radius rods. The steel bracket on the 2 inch plate mounts a Chev gear drive starter on the right side. And, no, I don't have any more info about it other than what is here but I know of 2 guys that made them from the shown pic. |

Re: adapter t-5 transmission to model a moter
Seems like I read somewhere that there was someone in NZ that was building a bell housing that would work with a T-5 or the RTS Tremec; RHD or LHD.

Re: adapter t-5 transmission to model a moter
I'm just finishing my T-5 conversion. I used a belhousing from Graeme McNeill, Mac's Speedshop in New Zealand. Pricy but a good quality piece. It has the shaft to use the stock clutch and brake petals, Also has the shaft for the clutch throwout fork. I got an adapter from Speedway motors that goes on the T-5 input shaft and uses the stock A/B throwout bearing. Also I used a stock "A" flywheel and pressure plate. Speedway also has the 9" clutch disc with the correct spline for the T-5. The only mod I had to do was shorten the trans pilot shaft as it was to long. Speedway also has the correct pilot bearing for the T-5 to A or B flywheel.
