Luggage rack bracket question.

I guess it is not that critical of a question but I just wonder if anyone knows what this notch is for that all the repro luggage rack brackets have? It seems to serve no function .I just look at this and wonder why they even stamp this process or step in making them.Must be something that was on the original ones? Seems it would take quite the press or stamping to punch out that thick of metal for no reason.Inquiring minds want to know,at least mine.

There were several different types to suit the various bodies. The Victoria version had a curved cutout to clear the rear apron.

My original Victoria trunk rack support has that punched out piece. I do not know what it was for.

Yes ,you look at it and what step in the process it must have taken to stamp it out,rather punch it and you would think it had a purpose like a stop or something.

Now that I look at it, it is the stop for the folding arms of the trunk rack when it is lowered and it keeps the folding arms from going down when the rack is folded up.

Thank you,you just answered my question to what seemed like a foolish post to others who have much more serious questions. The arms on mine were installed inside the brackets opposite the punched out plug stop.So your answer got me looking at it and installed correctly.I don't know if I installed wrong or the guys in Taiwan but thank you. I have also discovered this when the rack is fully down it is shy about 1/4" or more from touching the support that is punched out.I have a pair of older ones(brackets) and the notch does support ,they were made in USA years ago not Taiwan.I may end up using them but they are pitted a lot.Repro brackets now have the notch or something in wrong position,so typical of Asianparts only has to look original not neccisarily work.
