Default H.A.M.B access

I have not been able to access the H.A.M.B. for the last day. Are they having problems, or is there something wrong on my end?

The web page says it is down for revisions. Do you see that page?

I saw it. It just seems unusual for them to be down this long with no notice. Also the last time they made major changes, my "Hot Link" was pointing to an invalid location, and I thought they had problems when there were none. Just checking.

There was a post from Ryan about up coming renovations to the site.

I have been trying to wait patiently, for it to come back.

The name of each book is a link you can click on to learn more about that book.

Actually it had been discussed for some time over there. You must have missed the threads about the upcoming changes.

For those that didn't find the link or haven't read the note Ryan left:

http://www.jalopyjournal.com/?p=22566

Under Construction

Posted by Ryan on May 6, 2014 and filed under: News

Well fellas… The time has finally come and as you read this, we are head down in the process of bringing you the new Jalopy Journal. As a result, we will be down anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days depending on how quickly we managed to transfer the massive amounts of data we are working with. This is, by far, the most sweeping redesign we have ever executed and due to this unprecedented nature, we are pretty damned unclear on exactly how long all of this is going to take.
Just stay cool. Be patient… And we will be back before you know it with something that will knock your socks off.
In the meantime, I’ve put together a list of books that I consider “must reading” for any man looking to solidify his passion and knowledge of traditional hot rods and customs. Spend our downtime broadening your horizons with these:
1. The Birth Of Hot Rodding. This one is no longer in print and is getting expensive on the used market, but even at close to $150, you can’t go wrong. This book is a staple. Seriously.
2. Dry Lakes & Drag Strips. Another now expensive staple that you can’t afford to go on without.
3. The Andy Southard Books (Hot Rods of the 1950′s, Custom Cars of the 1950′s, Hot Rods & Customs of the 1960′s). We did an interview with Andy a while back… His books remain at the top of my list and should be on yours as well.
4. Kustomland. If you are custom guy, you already have this book. If you don’t, you have no idea what you are missing. James Potter’s photography is absolutely amazing.
5. Hot Rod Milestones. A great book that does a good job of chronicling the most important historical hot rods ever built.
6. The American Hot Rod. Dean Batchelor had a hand in this one… As such, it’s a must own.
7. The All American Hot Rod. Good simply for the photography…
8. Hot Rod Magazine: All The Covers. Every cover of HRM since 1948. It’s invaluable.
9. Art of The Hot Rod. Ken Gross did this one… And it’s gorgeous.
10. How To Build A Traditional Ford Hot Rod. Vern Tardel… I almost didn’t include this one on the list as everyone already has this one, right?
11. Hot Rod. David Perry’s classic… I know it’s considered lame to admire the scene, but I do anyway and this book is beautiful.
12. The Scrapbook. TRJ did this one and it’s still one of my favorites.
13. The Dan Post Box Set. Another TRJ offering and another must have for the custom man.
………………
I could go on, but somehow given the circumstances it just feels right to stop at 13. With any luck, you won’t have enough time to read all these books before The Jalopy Journal is back up and running.
Stay tuned!

-Ryan

I thought the H.A.M.B. went through a major change/restructuring last year. Wasn't that working well? I'm a member but rarely go there, so probably don't know/realize what I'm missing .

I used to be addicted to looking at that thread also until it got to where people were just reposting the same photos over and over again.

Eveytime someone responds the pictures are shown again, but that's okay. I have seen very few pictures re-posted otherwise.

So I spend the day on Google doing research but half the results point me to the HAMB ... which is down.
I bet the NSA have put half their staff on leave 'til Ryan gets the HAMB back up again. US internet traffic down 25%. Two nuclear power stations closed down!

Have you been watching it from the start? I am not talking about pics coming back with a response. The same photos from the first few thousand pages are being reposted sometimes several times. I can remember seeing them. But thats ok because it would take a week to go back and look through that long thread. I think it was at about 900 thousand posts when the hamb went down wasn't it?

Don't know how much longer I can take this. Last night actually sat on the porch with my wife and stared out the screen window and she said "why are YOU here"? I said no hamb, and she said there is plenty in the frig. I went back out to the shop because trying to explain what is going on would definitely put me over the edge. Boss, help me!!!!!!

That's DAMN FUNNY I wonder if she is a blonde & also reminds me of this nut house. Forgive me for hi-jacking your post but I have to tell you this one:
I was on the cardboard creeper under the park avenue trying to change the oil. Well I had it jacked up & on jack stands & wriggled underneath but the jack stands were in the way & the clearance was very very close,my gut was rubbing/cleaning the under carriage. I couldn't get to the drain plug & claustrophobia was setting in. I said screw it take it to a garage & started to wriggle back out when she grabbed my belt & started to pull on it. HOLY MOTHER OF Jesus I thought the car was coming down & let out a bloody yell. She says I'm sorry I thought you were stuck. I said Did I ask for help get out of the blanking garage further more if I want your help I will ask. Then she started the crying routine. No Hamb & just cold cuts for dinner.
Come on Ryan get er dun. BTW I went under from the front & got the oil changed. Lots of room in front.

My wife once asked me if the HAMB was a porn site......."Well you sure spend a lot of time on there!"......."Honey if it were a porn site I'd only be on there for a few minutes" ...........

i can't imagine how to fix a computer web site, i am sure it is a lot harder than getting an old jalopy going after a rebuild.
