fuel line fitting?
anyone know of a fitting for a 47 merc stock fuel tank, that would turn the line 90 degrees,so I don't have to put a tight bend in the line,to avoid the drivers side dual exhaust pipe.bending so close might screw up being able to use the stock fitting,or flatten the tube too much.

Re: fuel line fitting?
I got a 90* fitting with 1/4" compression fitting at NAPA. I think that the end that goes into the tank is 1/8" pipe.

Re: fuel line fitting?
The end that go's into the tank is 1/2"-20. Close to 1/4 " pipe but not the same. G.M.

The reason is that to get a leak proof seal the fitting has to bottom out. There is no flexibility in positioning the outlet as there would be with tapered pipe threads. So you wouldn't be able to position the outlet in the direction you want even if the fitting was available. There is a straight fitting with a barbed outlet, (for rubber tubing), that matches the fitting in the tank, (AutoZone part 785-402), but I assume you want to keep the metal lines. Maybe you could have someone make up a fitting using a shortened 1/2-20 bolt, bored out to the I.D. of the 5/16 line, countersinking the end going into the tank with a 90* countersink and tapping the hex end 1/8-27 or 1/4-18 pipe thread. The 90* inverted flare fitting with either 1/8th of 1/4 pipe thread is readily available to add to the end of the modified bolt. BTW, I googled "90* inverted flare fitting" and found nothing that would work using a single fitting. Howard Last edited by HCO41; 05-12-2014 at 06:20 PM. |
