flathead ford - bell housing - industrial power unit question
is the flathead ford V8 bell housing a SAE number 5 or number6 ?
what im searching for is a 1953 and newer ford tractor / industrial 4 cyl 134/172 bell housing that bolts up to a flathead ford transmission i have one that came out of a Jacobson golf course tractor that pulled gang reel mowers. im guessing that they were also used on brush chippers ect but so far the ones ive turned up were out of air compressors and had a bigger dia sae bellhouing. anyone familiar with what im talking about? |

Re: flathead ford - bell housing - industrial power unit question
I looked for years and never found one. Made one from a pressed steel Merc bellhousing but it did not work out. Always wanted to put a 172 diesel in a early ford, they will run all day on a teacup of fuel.

they were used in boats-I have seen/riden in such a boat but I do not remember the bell housing-might want to try an antique marine dealer

Re: flathead ford - bell housing - industrial power unit question
I had a JD 172 in a duce roadster. I ran a Mculla supercharger off a Kizer/ frazer. back in the late 50's. Very fast in the 1/8 mile but I think it had too much boost because it would shut down at hi reves.
