Default front shocks

My 48 has tube ones on the rear from the factory. The front ones are lever type. My car came with 2 left hand levers which was the product of a PO I'd say. That is hopeless ,the one of the left side is leaking fluid so they are about as "much use as a chocolate fireguard." Good second ones are hard to come by. Having them rebuilt here is $300 plus per side, anyway I don't have a left and right pair (shocks that is). Having them rebuilt overseas would be uneconomical when you take into account freight for the heavy suckers.

I am toying with the idea of a tube shock kit for the front. C&G have them
11A-18124-KIT is the part number. Anyone out there used this kit? how do you find it ?

thanks

GB

I have a C&G shock kit on my 36.A different number but the same set-up(I think).A bracket bolts to the frame for the top of the shock and the bottom attaches to the included shackle bolt. The shackle will have to be removed so you'll need a spring spreader. The first set of shocks (for a stock application) were too long so after a phone call they sent a pair that would work correctly. And they do.It might be worth a call or e-mail for some measurements of the brackets and shackles so you and they will have a good idea of the correct travel and length. Gas filled are too stiff so it's best to go with oil filled.Good people to deal with.

Thanks Willit Stop. I have been dealing with C&G for light years and you are right about them being good to deal with. I always go to them first if I can. I've done the shackles before.

thanks again

Corey at C&G was just the best when I purchased from them. Never had service like that from any other supplier that I've dealt with.

I installed a set of tube shocks on the front of my '41 . The arms bolted to the original holes for the lever shocks and my frame developed hairline cracks traveling out from the mounting holes. I welded a fish plate on the frame and reinstalled the stock lever shocks. I'm not sure if the later frames were constructed different for the tube shock set-up or what went wrong.
