Default Torque tube gasket

I was looking through the latest Bratton's catalog and noticed something for the first time. The torque tube gasket PN 6290 states the gasket is NOT used on model A's. It states the gasket was first use in 1932. Their website states the same thing. This is new to me. I thought the gasket was used on all model A's. I am close to installing the torque tube on my banjo, and would like to know what is the right way to install it. Does anyone have any information confirming this? Is sure seems like a gasket would be used verses metal to metal.

I can't remember exactly where I read it in the last few days, but I recall reading that the A didn't initially have a gasket at the torque tube. However, gaskets were supplied at some point during the manufacturing run.

You need the gasket there. Other parts vendors sayiing 28 through 31. And I'm pretty sure I replaced same when I re-did mine.

The gasket sets ALWAYS have this gasket for Model A's.

The case is slotted appropriately to receive the little groove, I believe.

Edit: And poster above is correct. EARLY Model As have a slightly different setup around the pinion bearing and don't require the gasket.

well i wouldnt put it together without it. all the gasket kits include it and on tom endys tutorial he lists it as a required part. i would think it would leak if you went metal to metal.
snyders lists it for all the years
i am not sure of the actual production history about when or if it was used...

I have heard and read over the years that Ford did not provide a gasket at the junction of the torque tube and the banjo on the Model A.

However, they are available now and it makes sense to install one to prevent an oil drip. I install one on every rear axle assembly I rebuild.

If nothing else, just a light smear of RTV, # 2 Permatex, or whatever your favorite goo is. Bill W.

As the drive shaft housing does not affect anything in the rear end setup, I would use it.

Ditto. None originally, but I've always used one.
