This sensor produces its own electric pulse and is called a hall effect sensor, It does not use battery voltage to operate. I will try to come up with the proper connection for you. I am not 100% sure but I would think that the LT GRN/BLK would be the ground and the PPL/WHT would be the voltage out if there is a black wire or tracer stripe it normally is a ground and purple generally indicates power.

Regards,

Brian

A good question would be what are you connecting it to? It is my understanding that there is very little these senders will drive, they are usually modified to except a mechanical drive.

I see that vdo makes hall effect sensors their sensors are 3 wire ( the red wire would be 12 volt positive, the black wire would be ground and the white wire would be the signal to the Speedo head.
I have a New Vintage USA electronic Speedo and it can be wired from the 3 wire or the OEM 2 wire.
Regards,

But Brian

Do you have the instruction sheet for the VDO speedometer? If you probe the output sensor terminals with a voltmeter you should get a dc voltage with the driveshaft turning (light green with black tracer to negative side of meter and positive to purple with white tracer) if the polarity is backwards the volt meter will indicate negative voltage. If you don't have your instructions I can scan the one I have from the New Vintage USA instructions that I have.

Regards,

Brian
