Default Radiator hose script size

gday, I want to get a stencil made so I can spray this script on my plain hoses.

I need the length of it, from the first bit of the F to the end of the dot after the A .

thanks

Not 100% certain about 1932's but '33 through '48 there was NO Ford script on any of the hoses. The script was added in 1949. Any earlier hose you see with the script is either a later service replacement or a poor reproduction.

Just a google image search.

If I had these I would not need measurements.

If you import the image into a photo editor and you know the outsize diam of the hoses you can get a fairly accurate size of the script font.
Try "Photo Studio".

As stated. If no one comes up with a dimension perhaps using a known dimension you can scale it. Assuming that the O.D. of the hose is 2.5". Scaling the image yields these dim's.
Of course different actual dim's will yield different results.

Ah I gotcha.
They are from here:

http://www.macsautoparts.com/early_v...rd-372285.html

or here:

http://cgfordparts.com/wwwsectionfil...ing_hoses.html

And they are expensive! I see why you want to make your own.

Lets review.....As Kube said,,"There was NO FORD Script on early V-8 radiator hoses",,,So there is no correct size and length of lettering.

Source of information.....Ford Archive Drawings of early radiator hoses

Hi Everyone.

Please understand I am no expert (but there might be some nearby), just an Internet blabbermouth. But, as I see it, everyone's mind is imprinted with these scripted hoses, because VERY FEW of us were there when the cars were built. Allowing for exceptions, all of our cars have replacement hoses, good gracious, hopefully a dozen or more sets on a very well maintained vehicle!

All the repro hoses, for most of our lifetimes, has had the script... wait for it... when it wasn't that way originally, or as some say, in a lovely baratone voice, As Henry Built It.

Just questions to the forum... What is the goal? Do you want working hoses, or correct, expensive, and maybe not durable ones for the judging team to accept?

Recently I got a set of these for my 35. All of them were cut an PITA bit too long and made installation an event including colorful language skills. Needed to trim about an inch or a bit more from them to make them fit well, but I just manhandled them into place. I have to change the fluid before freeze (don't ask, or just search) so I get to wrestle agin' soon!

I believe that the reproduction hoses only come in two sizes (short and long) for the '32-'36 V-8s and must be shortened for most applications. Unless I missed something, the sellers do not provide the correct dimensions of the various lengths so the hobbyist is left to his own devices as to the length they actually need for their particular application (unless they happen to have a copy of the relevant engineering drawing showing the various lengths).

As usual 51merc came up with the perfect picture. I guess if you can make the headlights flash in your avatar picture, you know what your doing! I can't comment on originality of the script on the hoses but I like how it looks. Not to veer to far off from the threads topic but when I changed the hoses on my '50, I bought universal hoses for the top and a length to cut for the bottom. Unbolting the radiator and putting it and the bottom hoses in at the same time was easier...... Mark

You can in fact comment on the originality of the script...the script was not original prior to 1949.

I used lacquer thinner to remove the orange script from the hoses on my 40 before it was judged on the concourse. Kube is right, service replacements had it, but not from the assembly line until after 48. Of course it only matters if you are going for authenticity.

Wow, sure got a few feathers ruffled here...and i did not even state what model ford I had.

I suppose I could venture into a local V8 parts vendor, and steal a pic but they are few and far between in outback OZ.

I thought it was maybe an easy question, if someone had the painted hoses to simply run a tape along the said paint.

I might just do a Spock (star trek 4 flick ) and "make my best guess".

If you know what the O.D. of your hose is, open up the image of the scripted hose.
Using the 'Zoom' feature in your computer, measure the O.D. of the image on the screen and adjust it to come as close as possible to the known O.D. of your hose.
Then measure the length of the script on your screen.
That's probably as close as you're going to get.

pooch, I see you are in Australia. Australian built Fords contained many locally produced components such as tires, batteries, glass, paint, trim materials, belts, hoses and the list goes on. If you have an early aussie V8 in the thirties it would NOT have been fitted with "made in the USA" ford hoses. More likely DUNLOP or BARNETT GLASS or some other Australian / British sourced rubber products. My 34 Ford I bought in the 1960s had DUNLOP hoses and fan belt fitted but they may have been replacements by then. Regards, Kevin.
