gasket sealers
I'm assembling my torque-tube to banjo, etc. I have paper gaskets. Should I use any additional sealer on the gasket (also torque-tube to transmission), or just the dry paper?
Thanks |

Re: gasket sealers
I've always used the old non-hardening Permatex.

Re: gasket sealers
I slather chassis lube on the gaskets and tighten away.

Re: gasket sealers
I have been doing TJ on one side of the gaskets and Lawson on the other, depending on the surface and which side would be ok to adhere to. For instance, intake manifold it's ok if it sticks to the manifold, so I permatex that side. Grease on the block side. Something other than just dry makes me sleep better at night.

Re: gasket sealers
I stopped using gasket sealers in most applications years ago after spending an ungodly amount of time trying to scrape all of that crap off mating surfaces. What I do now is make sure mating surfaces are very clean, flat and free of any nicks, scrapes or dings, then lightly coat those surfaces, and both sides of the gaskets with a chassis lube type grease, then bolt it together. The initial preparation of mating surfaces is a key factor in achieving a good seal.
I rebuilt the rear in my avatar 35 fordor last May using this procedure and it is dry as a bone on all exterior surfaces today.
