Default ANSWERED-THANKS! Id this 4spd trans in model a?

My '31 has a 4 speed trans put in by the previous owner. It's a top loader with syncro in 1st. The fill and drain plugs are on the side (drain is not on the bottom). Previous owner added an adapter plate to make this work and shortened the torque tube (not open) drive shaft. Stock clutch works fine.
Here's the numbers:
Top of trans: GLA18033 Side of trans: G2804877 & T21008AA
Shift tower: G2605317 & RFTR7222
thanks,
art

Not sure why you started a new thread, but in both threads photos are the best way to go to ID parts.

I like the looks of it, I would be hard pressed to remove it.

Yes Sir, it sure does. -18 in my garage, so pictures are difficult, but thank you for the reply. Do you think this will bolt up to my 59ab without to much difficulty?
thanks again,

Most likely need an adapter plate similar to the one it currently has. Might be able to adapt the current one to work.

You could contact Dave Delume, as he does a V8 conversion for that trans.
May just need a hogs head off a truck transmission. Here's a link to Daves
web site. http://www.modelaonly.net/products.html

It's a Tremec T170RTS. Used in some ford F150's 1984-87. The ones that I use are 26% overdrive in forth gear. They were also made with other overdrive ratios but the 26% works well for me. I put one in my Model A (stock 4 cyl.) and also my 1933 pickup (59AB engine). A really nice shifting unit, especially if it has the correct synthetic oil in it.

Yes and it has an OD in 4th, great trans I have one in my truck. Plus that closed drive conversion is very expensive

Thank you Jim! the adapter plate to the Model A four cyl. is different or the same for the 59ab (excuse my lack of knowledge)? If it's different, do you know where I can obtain one?
Thanks again,

Thank you Ol'Ron, I just ordered your book as a guide for my rebuild of the 59ab. sounds like I have a winner in that trans! Hopefully I can find the adapter to fit the V8. Love reading your replies to other ?'s on here, thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Art, I use the hogs head from a truck. Then drill the transmission case and tap it with the same bolt pattern as the hogs head. I disassemble the transmission and then drill and tap the case for bolts using the hogshead for a pattern. The transmission is bolted directly to the hogs head. Use sealant on the bolt threads and be careful not to use bolts that are too long that can go too far into the transmission and interfere with the gears. The front bearing retainer on the transmission will have to be turned down a little on a lathe to fit the hole in the hogs head. There is other stuff involved but overall it’s a conversion that I really like. I will send you a PM with my phone if you want to discuss it in more detail. JIM

Love them hogsheads, they are useful for a lot of transmissions!

Thanks again, Jim. Yes I got your PM. This hog's head modification sounds a little advanced for me, but may be the only solution. I have contacted Dave Delume @ Model A Only regarding adapting the Tremec to my 59ab. He makes the kit that adapted it to my stock 4 banger and says he has one to fit V8's (it may be the same one, I'm hoping) Anyway, we'll see what he has to say and once again I truly appreciate all your help. I'll be in touch.
