Default re-building my rearend...(well, my coupe's rearend!)

I blew apart my rear axle housing to replace the inner seals that failed, wiping out my brakes. So, with the housing off the banjo, discover the ring and pinion is shot... the inner bearings and races are shot... unknown yet about the pinion bearings... So, everything will be refreshed when I get done. I took the opportunity to change over to 3.54 gears, should be nice!

I will need to change the speedometer drive gear. Need to check the front bearing, and will of course replace the front seal. Not sure about the u-joint.

Question, how can I tell if the center torque tube bushing needs replacing? Should I just do it while everything is apart, knowing what kind of shape everything else is?

On a related matter, I'm thinking about replacing my brakes with MT or Wilson Welding products... Any thoughts? Opinions?

Thanks!

Since you have to do other replacements, I'd change out the torque tube bearing while the assembly was apart. I think Skip Haney has good replacements. Personally, I wouldn't want to take out the torque tube at a later date because the old bearing went bad. Just my opinion. Good luck.

I contemplated the same thing about the centre bearing , but was told from the supplier of NoS parts. You don't want to know the price of a replacement. And he has never seen a bad one. Mine was making no noise seemed to be fine so I have left it. Also I don't think it's an easy one to get out... Guess you cross your finger sometimes..

I read the instructions for Skip's bushing. Doesn't appear to be a fun outing. I guess I'll flip a coin and give it some more thought. Thanks.

On the brakes, if you can find someone that is very familiar with current availability of various types of lining (NOT joe backyard hot rodder) talk to them about how you drive and what you expect from the brakes.
It will really keep you happy in the long run.
