I found the inner nut from brattons would not thread in due to the plating i called and they said basically tough luck so i used the original one.

Re: Gas Gauge Installation secret?
I always use a light coat of "Seal-All" gas tank sealer on the parts, along with oil or grease on the brass rings. Take my time and it works well.
Prefit everything first to make sure the gauge is fitting properly and the threads are good. |

Re: Gas Gauge Installation secret?
Good Morning...One additional note: I have learned that when tightening the inner and outer rings...not to turn backwards for any reason...causes a leak. Better to take things apart and start over...learned from an 'OLD' guy and I'm 74. He is either dead or over 100...Ernie in Arizona

Re: Gas Gauge Installation secret?
Bringing this back up. Going to be re-installing my gas gauge. Can I confirm the placement of the brass slip ring(s)? One goes between the outer nut and the gauge. What type of gasket goes in the opening of the tank?

Re: Gas Gauge Installation secret?
I just did my 31 Pickup and used Bob Bidonde's diagram and it had three brass slip rings in it and I put three new ones back in and used cork gaskets, works great and no leaks.
There is also a new brass float made and sold by Reeniee Kotas, San Diego which is really neat and will last a life time. They aren't very expensive. I think if you do a search it will come up under Reeniee's name. |

Re: Gas Gauge Installation secret?
Did you by chance get a new star nut, if so...they are trash and will not seal, got to find a original.

Search for Paul Schinn on YouTube, he has a video on the gas gauge.

Use Dow Corning number 4 on the gaskets.
