Default trip meter 39 merc

basically the speedo works the odo works but no trip meter it will turn when you use the reset but dosent work normally the speedo wanders a bit and its not particularly accurate but i can live with that. it would be nice to have a trip meter

The knob and shaft that lets you reset the trip meter has to be pushed in ( or maybe pulled out) to disengage it from the speedo drive gear. Try gently pulling and pushing on the knob until it moves back and forth easily. In your situation, it is still disengaged. If the knob/shaft does move in and out, and it still doesn't work, the movable drive gear is stuck in the disengaged position. If you take the back off the speedo, you can free it up.
