Default Canadian Ford '52 F1 with 255 cu in

I've read that in the US the 255 was not offered on the Ford '52 F1. But I have not been able to find much information specific to Canada. I have a '52 F1 with what I believe is the 255 (4" stroke"). Does this mean the engine was swapped at some point?

What is it about this particular engine that makes you believe it's a 255? DD

Thank Tony. I can't reply until I get up to 10 posts. Working on that here...

I found this on itstillruns.com

Measure the stroke. On the 221-, 239- and 255-cubic-inch engine, which cannot be differentiated by any other method, measuring the stroke identifies the engine as they both have different stroke measurements. Remove one of the cylinder heads and crank the engine until one of the pistons is at dead-bottom. Measure the distance between the top of the piston and the top of the cylinder wall with a fine measurement machinist's ruler. The stroke on the 221 measures 3.75 inches, the 239 is 3.1875 inches and the 255 stroke measures 4 inches.

I measured the stroke and it is 4"

That said, if there are better ways I'm here to learn more and would appreciate any help!

I did a little research back when I was working on the 49 Mercury truck. I see no indication that Ford/Mercury offered the Merc 255 in their smaller trucks. Any of the vintage ads I have from that time only mention the 106 hp engine. (239).

Thanks RalphG and V8COOPMAN.

Seems likely that this is from a newer truck. The person I bought it from thought the previous owner had it rebuilt in the 80's, but didn't have any more information. I'm curious so I'll keep digging!

Well V8COOPMAN I am glad you asked. I'm not sure what I did previously but I just went and re-measured. It's a 239 after all.

Thanks again everyone
