Default Giving back...

Hello guys.

I started repairing pot metal roughly 5 years ago and I'm consistently asked if I have any parts for sale? Occasionally I'll pick up something and restore it and throw it on ebay, but it's not something I do..

That said, I've been thinking about doing something for these people and here's what I've come up with:

I set up a pot metal parts classifieds where anyone can browse, post parts for free (No advertisement) and was wondering if you'd be willing to help a brother out with populating it?
I won't be emailing you with any junk or anything of the sort. I just wanted to help some folks out with finding pot metal parts.

If ya'll could help out by posting your stuff for sale, I'd really appreciate it.
Oh yes.. Any ad you post will run free until you mark it as sold.

Here's the link if you want to help: https://potmetal.repair/classifieds/view-categories/

Thanks.

Sounds interesting. Please explain how costs are determined and paid.

Hello and apologies for the delayed response. We've been incredibly busy, work is eating up every bit of my time aside from eating, sleeping and the like.

We work on an hourly rate basis and usually our customers will text, email or use our online photo/description form to submit a request for repair.
Once we've evaluated the request, we will give an estimate based on what we see in those photos. However, pot metal is very unpredictable with regard to its level of contamination. And depending on the level of impurities with ultimately determine the total cost of given repair.
We've dealt with both good and bad pot metal. Good clean metal weld's quickly, however highly contaminated metal takes time. With poor metal conditions, 99% of the time much of the material at the damage has to be removed in order to get to weldable metal. And that material that was removed all it's detail must be reshaped back to it's original structure.

But again, not all pot metal is garbage and without a doubt can be repaired, it just doesn't like to be repaired. You have to make friends with it so to speak, but it you don't know how to do that?
It will definitely, in an instant make you hate your life!

If you have any further questions, by all means shoot me a call, text or email k.

Thanks

Have you had any luck repairing 1941 Ford horn rings? The bars connecting the semi-circular ring to the center horn piece are notorious for breaking. I tried fixing with low temperature solder, but the repair did not hold.

Sounds more like a come-on for business rather than "giving back". Just sayin'.

Lawson, you pessimistic old goat, the guy is “giving back” to the world what has previously been thought to be unsalvageable. After he gives it back, then you give him his due.
